Key Stage 2: Rocks and Quarries

This programme includes a quarry tour and classroom sessions. The children will learn to identify a range of rocks using a hands-on experimental approach. They will then discover how we all use rocks everyday (cleaning your teeth will never be the same). We finish with a look at how to stay safe in quarries.

All children will get a quarry tour around a working quarry. This will allow them to see the process of quarrying from drilling holes for the explosives, to picking the rock up in giant shovels and then taking the rock to be crushed and sorted, then finally, loaded onto trains and lorries.

We cannot promise a blast but if there is one, we will do our best to allow the children to see it!
