Any group of people interested in looking around one of the operating Mendip Quarries can contact and arrange a visit. There must be a minimum of 5 people and a maximum of 20 people in a party of visitors. Visits are during week days only.
Examples of past visitors include U3A Geology Groups, Russell Society, Southampton Mineral Society, Dorset Vehicle Preservation Society, Trowbridge Camera Club, Mells Cubs, Fairfield College for students with Special Educational Needs, BTCV Wild West Project.
Groups may use the Centre facilities and staff for special educational events. Numbers of visitors can be up to 100 people and we can use the building, grass picnic area, lake and woodlands.
Groups that have used these facilities for events include Somerset Wildlife Trust Big Draw and Mells 1st Cub Pack Environmental Partnership Award, Shepton Mallet Autism Support Group, Writhlington Holiday Scheme.
The classroom area can be set up to seat up to 40 boardroom style and 60 in theatre/lecture style. We have a computer projector and screen for presentations. Tea and coffee is available and lunch can be arranged, on request, from an external caterer.
Examples of groups using the Centre for meetings/training include Capita Symons, Tarmac Health and Safety Forum, Somerset County Council, Mendip District Council, Environmental Training Network.
